Biographical Note
Son of Henry Stanley of Chichester, gentleman. BA New College, Oxford 1630, fellow and MA 1634, MD from the University of Padua 1637. Practised as a physician in London, fellow of the College of Physicians 1649.
Books
A number of books with Stanley's armorial stamps survive. His library was sold by retail sale in London, 12.2.1723. The sale catalogue contains 2040 lots, divided between Latin history (104 lots), Latin and Greek miscellaneous (191), Latin classics and lexicography (192), Latin theology (86), medicine and natural history (257), French books (147), Italian and Spanish (156), English history (370), English miscellaneous (163), English theology (117), trade and husbandry (67), and "Libri omissi" (190).
