Son of Matthew Martin, of Wivenhoe, Essex. MA Trinity College, Cambridge 1728; admitted at Lincoln's Inn 1725 (barrister, 1731).

Martin used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 19870); the extent of his library is not known.
