Alice HATTON, Lady Hatton 1581-1638

Biographical Note

Daughter of Sir Thomas Fanshawe, of Ware Park, Hertfordshire, Queen's Remembrancer. She married Sir Christopher Hatton (d.1619) in 1602.

Her probate inventory includes a list of ca.100 books, typical of a wealthy lady’s closet of the time, edited as PLRE 273. It includes extensive holdings of popular devotional and theological works of the time, with a broader range of medical and household books, all in English.
