Thankful OWEN 1620-1681
Biographical Note
Born in London, son of Philip Owen of Taplow, gentleman. BA Exeter College, Oxford 1640, fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford 1642, MA 1646; one of the Lincoln delegates to the parliamentary visitors, 1648. Senior proctor of the University 1649. President of St John’s College, Oxford 1650 (ejected 1660). Moved to London and by 1665 was living at Tree Alley, Bunhill; chosen in 1680 to be the independent minister of the congregation at Fetter Lane, but died before he could take up office.
Books
Owen's library was auctioned 1681; see entry for Ralph Button. Owen's will has no mention of books; all the residue of his goods and chattels were bequeathed to his wife.
