John DILLON d.1831
Biographical Note
Not much is known about John Dillon, apart from his role as Vice-President of the Maitland Club prior to his death in 1831.
Books
Dillon had an extensive library which was sold at auction by Barclay & Skirving's Sale Room, Glasgow, in November 1831. The collection held many 18th and early 19th century books, several published by Foulis press and the Maitland Club. It also contained incunabula, illuminated manuscripts, books printed on vellum, and several Aldines. The subjects include books on law, Scottish history, classics, and poetry.
The library was sold in 734 lots which included 44 manuscripts (5 specify 'illuminated'), 12 lots containing volumes of pamphlets, and 3 incunabula (lots 256, 259, 650).
