Sir Robert THOROLD, 3rd bart ca.1653-1706
Biographical Note
No biographical information traced beyond the fact that he was the third and last of the Thorold baronets of the Haugh, Lincolnshire (there were several other lines of Thorold baronets), son of Sir Robert, 2nd baronet, who died ca.1695. His will identifies his main place of residence and property holdings as being at Broad Chalk, Wiltshire.
Books
Thorold's will has no mention of books, but bequeathed the residue of his estate to be shared equally between his sisters Elizabeth and Philadelphia. His library was sold by auction in London by Francis Hubbart, beginning 7 January 1707; only a titlepage from the sale catalogue, and a separate printed advertisement sheet, survive, referring to "valuable books in Greek, Latin, French, Italian and English". The sale was also advertised in The Daily Courant.
Characteristic Markings
None of Thorold's books have been identified.
