Biographical Note
Other than a ‘Mr Joseph Sayer, Surgeon. London’ appearing in the list of subscribers to Benjamin Martin’s Bibliotheca technologica (1737), the identity of the owner of the bookplate listed below is unclear. He was possibly the Joseph Sayer, son of Peter Sayer of Wallingford, Berkshire, who matriculated at Gloucester Hall, Oxford in 1710 and gained a B.A. in 1713, an M.A. from Worcester College in 1717 and a B.Med. in 1719.
Books
An engraved armorial bookplate (‘Josephus Sayer, Chirurgus Londinensis’) is in the Franks Collection: 26193. No further evidence of books owned by him has yet been found.
