Richard LOVELACE, 1st Baron Lovelace 1564-1634
Biographical Note
Son of Richard Lovelace, deputy to Charles Howard, 2nd Baron Howard. Matriculated at Merton College, Oxford 1584, but did not graduate. He served on military campaigns with the Earl of Essex in the 1590s and was knighted in 1599. MP for Berkshire and other constituencies between 1601 and 1621, created Baron Lovelace in 1627; he acquired considerable wealth through marriage.
Books
Lovelace gave 27 books to create a parish library at Hurley, Berkshire (all now lost).
