Edmund ASSHETON b.1714/5
Biographical Note
Evidently a member of a long-established gentry family in Lancashire, the son of Edmund Assheton of Preston, gentleman (possibly Edmund Assheton 1685-1746, several times mayor of Preston?). BA Queen's College, Oxford 1735, after which his career has not been traced (though the existence of a second bookplate, with his Oxford association removed, suggests that he did not die young there).
Books
Assheton used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 844), with "Baliol Coll Ox" added; a second state of the plate is known (Franks 845), with this removed. The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
