William BASSET or BASSETT 1644-1696

Biographical Note

Born at Great Harborough, Warwickshire, son of Thomas Basset, minister there. BA Magdalen College, Oxford 1662, MA 1667. Rector of Brinklow, Warwickshire 1671, of St Swithin London Stone 1683. He published a number of sermons and theological works which strongly defended the mainstream Anglican tradition, opposing every kind of nonconformity or the making of concessions to dissenters.

Books

Basset’s library was sold by auction in London by Edward Millington, beginning 4 February 1697. The sale catalogue included 1651 lots, divided between Latin theology (397), Latin miscellaneous (398), French books (13), English theology (421) and [[language::English] miscellaneous (422).
