Biographical Note
Alexander Inglis of Murdostoun (d. 1719) bequeathed the estate to his nephew Alexander Hamilton, with the proviso that he took the Inglis name.

Used an engraved bookplate:
Franks 16014 Inglis, Alexander, of Murdostoun. (Arms. Inglis quartering Hamilton and Elphinstone.)
The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
