Biographical Note
Born at Camberwell, Surrey, son of John Scott. Matriculated Oriel College, Oxford 1658; LL.D 1667 from St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. Admitted at the Inner Temple, 1660. Vicar of Sunninghill, Berkshire 1671; canon of Windsor 1671.
Books
Scott’s library was sold by auction in London by John Bullord, 28 April 1690. The catalogue lists 1209 lots, plus 4 manuscripts and 8 bundles of stitched sermons or tracts. The subject breakdown is: Latin theology 273; Latin miscellaneous 353; English divinity 350; English miscellaneous 233. Most of the books are 17th-century imprints, with ca.7% of the collection 16th century or earlier. The catalogue introduction claims that “their binding is very extraordinary, as being most of them gilt on the back and filleted”.
