Alexander MURRAY of Broughton d.1750

Biographical Note

Younger son of Richard Murray of Broughton, Peeblesshire, a member of a family which had been based there since at least the 15th century. He succeeded his elder brother John to the family estates in 1705.

Books

Murray used engraved armorial bookplates (Franks 21395-7), perhaps made before his marriage to Euphemia Stewart in 1726 (the arms on the plate are those of his father, quartered with his wife's family). The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
