Benjamin GRIFFIN 1680-1740

Biographical Note

Born in Oxnead, Norfolk, son of Bejamin Griffin, rector there. He was initally apprenticed to a Norwich glazier, but in 1712 he joined the Duke of Norfolk's Company of players and began a career as an actor. He was regularly performing in London from at least 1715, in various theatres, and was much acclaimed thereafter.

Books

Griffin used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 12871); the extent and disposition of his library is not known. He died unmarried and his goods seem to have been inherited by his sister.
