Bruno RYVES ca.1596-1677
Biographical Note
Son of Thomas Ryves of Damory Court, Dorset. Clerk at New College, Oxford in 1610, graduating BA in 1616, and clerk at Magdalen College from 1617-1630. He proceeded MA in 1619. Rector of St Martin Vintry, London 1628, proceeded BD in 1632, and admitted to Gray’s Inn 1634. Proceeded DD in 1639 and became vicar of Stanwell, Middlesex. Joined the royalist army in 1642 and began editing the royalist newsbook Mercurius rusticus. He compounded for his estates in 1646 and in the same year became Dean of Chichester and Windsor. Made rector of Haseley, Oxfordshire in 1661.
Books
More than 110 books, valued at £11, were seized from his London house by the London Committee for Sequestration in 1643, and partly sold. An inventory survives in the Committee records in The National Archives.
