Charles SALUSBURY or SALISBURY fl. 1693-1716

Biographical Note

Little of Salusbury’s background and career details has so far been established. Brief references in the National Archives' State Papers Domestic and Treasury Books show that he was a captain in Charles Churchill’s Regiment of Foot in 1693, and by 1698 or January 1699 a captain in the Coldstream Guards. As he served with the latter he was presumably in active service during the Nine Years War (1688-97) against the French, perhaps at the Siege of Namur in 1695. He was in receipt of an army pension of £250 in 1716.

Books

He had an engraved armorial bookplate bearing the year 1698 (Franks *382): ‘Lt. Colonell Charles Salusbury, Captain in his Majesties Coldstreame Regiment of Foot Guards’. The content and the disposition of his library are not known.
