Biographical Note

Born at Hillesden, Buckinghamshire, eldest son of Alexander Denton, MP for Buckingham. Matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford 1695, but did not graduate; admitted at the Middle Temple 1697. MP for Buckingham 1698, and for Buckinghamshire 1708, where he was generally associated with the Whig side. He was created a baronet in 1699, although the baronetcy became extinct upon his death.

Denton used an armorial bookplate (Franks *168), but the extent of his library is not known. His will has no mention of books; the bulk of his estate was in inherited by his brother Alexander (1679-1740, MP and judge).
