Edward BURTON 1596-1661

Armorial stamp of Edward Burton (British Armorial Bindings).

Biographical Note

Son of Sir Edward Burton, of Sussex. BA Magdalen Hall, Oxford 1616, MA Magdalen College 1619, BD and DD 1629. Rector of Seddlescombe, Sussex 1628, of Westham 1638, of Broadwater 1649; chaplain to Charles I.

Books

Two books with an armorial stamp attributed to him are recorded in the Armorials Database. Are they his, or from another member of his family? His father, the knight, seems a more obvious candidate, but he died in 1638, and the imprint dates of the books are 1634 and 1639. Edward's brother Nicholas, a physician, d.1637. The arms are Burton quartered with Tawke.
