Sir Edward LAWRENCE, 1st Baronet d.1749

Biographical Note

Son of Paul Lawrence, rector of Tangmere, Sussex; he inherited estates near St Ives, Huntingdonshire from another branch of the family. In 1700 he purchased the office of gentleman user of the privy chamber (a post he held until 1726), and was MP for Stockbridge 1705-1710.

Books

Lawrence used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks *373); the extent and disposition of his library is not known (the title and estates were inherited by his nephew Isaac Woollaston).
