Francis LODWICK 1619-94

Biographical Note

Son of Waldrave Lodwick, a protestant refugee. A linguistic scholar, he was elected to the Royal Society in 1681 and published various works on linguistics, providing some inspiration for John Wilkins's An Essay towards a Real Character (1668). He was a friend of Samuel Hartlib and Robert Hooke. He was also a London Bodleian, where they can be identified from their distinctive numbering.
