George CHALMERS d.1758

Biographical Note

George Chalmers was admitted to the Society of Writers to the Signet in Edinburgh in 1723, having been an apprentice to Thomas Gibson. He was married to Elizabeth Arthur, daughter of Colin Arthur of Ballein in 1729. He died in 1758.

Used an engraved bookplate (Franks 5492): Chalmers, George, Writer to the Signet.

The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
