Henry PAMAN ca.1623-95

Biographical Note

Born at Chevington, Suffolk; son of Robert Paman. Entered Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 1643. He graduated BA from St John’s College, Cambridge in 1646 and was elected a fellow in the same year. Incorporated MA at Oxford on 11 July 1655. Appointed senior proctor in 1656, graduated MD in 1658, MD in 1669. He was appointed professor of physic at Gresham College and elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1679. Elected a fellow at the Royal College of Physicians in 1687. Graduated LLD in 1684 and subsequently appointed Master of the Faculties at the University of Cambridge.

Books

Paman bequeathed his library (with an additional £50 to buy books), containing many medical and other books, to St John’s College, Cambridge. Made further bequests to Emmanuel College, the Royal College of Physicians, and his native parish.
