John GLASCOCKE ca.1621-1661

Biographical Note

English clergyman and Fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge, from which he obtained his B.A. in 1643 and M.A. in 1646. Glascocke was a distant relative of the diarist, Samuel Pepys: his mother, Mary, was the sister of Pepys’ great-aunt, Judith Pepys, wife of Sir Richard Pepys (Lord Chief Justice of Ireland, 1654-9). Glascocke was appointed Rector of Little Canfield, Essex, in 1649, a position he held until his death in 1661.

Books

Glascocke donated three volumes of works by the English theologian, William Perkins (1558-1602) to the library at Magdalene College. The inscription on title page reads: "Ex dono Mori Johannis Glascocke quondam huis Coll. Socij."
