====Biographical Note====
Born at [[place of birth::Thornton-le-Dale, Yorkshire]]. BA [[education::St Catharine's College, Cambridge]] 1686, [[occupation::fellow of St Catharine's College, Cambridge|fellow]] 1688, MA 1690, BD 1698, DD 1716. [[occupation::rector|Rector]] of [[location::Beddington, Surrey]] 1708, [[occupation::Bishop]] of [[diocese::Norwich]] 1723; he was also a [[occupation::chaplain]] to George I. He was respected for his learning and his piety, and published various sermons and classical translations.

====Books====
Leng's will has no mention of books, which would have been divided between his wife and daughters under the terms of his will. His library was auctioned in [[location::London]], beginning 18 March 1728; no catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in the ''Daily Journal'' and ''Daily Post''.
