====Biographical Note====
Born in [[place of birth::Manchester]]. [[occupation::fellow|Fellow]] of [[organisations::All Souls College, Oxford|All Souls, Oxford]] from 1649 until his death.  

====Books====
Prestwich gave money for the establishment of a town library in [[location::Manchester]] during his lifetime, and bequeathed “all my folios quartos and larger octavos bound up either in leather or parchment” to [[beneficiary::Manchester]]. His library was initially set up in the Jesus Chapel of the collegiate church there, but later in the 17th century was subsumed into [[organisations::Chetham's Library]]. No records of the books given by Prestwich survive.
