John SPENCER or SPENSER 1558/9-1614

Biographical Note

Of Suffolk, son of John Spencer. BA Corpus Christi College, Oxford 1577, fellow 1579, MA 1581, BD 1590, DD 1602, President 1607. Vicar of Alveley, Essex 1589, and held various other livings; fellow of Chelsea College 1610, chaplain to James I, canon of St Paul's 1612.

Books

In his will, Spencer bequeathed to Corpus Christi as many books from his library as they should want, choosing such books "as for the bignes and argument are fit for a librarye"; ca.50 volumes were selected. The residue of his goods and chattels were left to his wife.
