====Biographical Note====
Son of [[family::Richard Hotchkis]] of [[location::Chirbury, Shropshire]]. BA [[education::St John's College, Cambridge]] 1712, MA 1716. [[occupation::curate]] of  [[location::Upton Magna]] from 1718; [[occupation::perpetual curate]] of [[location::Uffington]] from 1734; [[occupation::schoolmaster]] of [[organisations::Shrewsbury School]] 1735-1754; [[occupation::perpetual curate]] of [[location::Battlefield]] from 1749; and [[occupation::rector]] of [[location::Ryton]] from 1762.

====Books====
Hotchkis was involved with the library of Shrewsbury School, making donations and creating a catalogue of its holdings, but he [[bequest::bequeathed]] his own "books and [[format::manuscript|papers]]" to his [[beneficiary::brother]], [[family::Richard Hotchkis|Richard]. Examples: Many of his manuscripts and correspondence survive in the Shropshire Archives and the British Library. Printed books from his library have been identified in the Gunnerusbiblioteket, Universidad de Salamanca ([https://brumario.usal.es/permalink/34BUC_USAL/8ka9h0/alma991006842029705773 BG/11806]), and University of Glasgow ([https://eleanor.lib.gla.ac.uk/record=b3057690 Sp Coll Hunterian Bf.3.10]). 

====Characteristic Markings====
Hotchkis used a Chippendale armorial bookplate (Franks 15434), and there are also examples of his name being [https://bibliotecageneralhistorica.usal.es/?q=persona/hotchkis-leonard inscribed] in his books.
