Sir Lewis TRESHAM, 1st bart 1578-1639

Armorial stamp of Sir Lewis Tresham (British Armorial Bindings)

Biographical Note

Of Rushton, Northamptonshire, younger son of Sir Thomas Tresham, who inherited the Rushton estate after his elder brother Francis died after his arrest for involvement in the Gunpowder Plot. Created a baronet in 1611, his extravagance and mismanagement led to the sale of much of the family property.

Books

Most of Sir Thomas Tresham's large library passed to Thomas Brudenell, 1st Earl of Cardigan, through his marriage to Tresham's daughter Mary. A small handful of books with the inscription and/or armorial stamp of Sir Lewis survive among the Tresham/Brudenell library at Deene Park.
