Neil BOTHWELL b.1696

Biographical Note

Neil Bothwell (b. 1696) was the second son of Henry Bothwell (d. 1735). His grandfather Alexander Bothwell (d. 1727) was the heir of the last Lord Holyroodhouse but failed to secure recognition of his title.

He is recorded as a factor of the South Sea Company, working in South America, partly as a slave trader.

Used an engraved bookplate (Franks 3153): Bothwell, Neill, Esqr.

The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
