Peter CLARKE d.1703

Biographical Note

Possibly the man who was a son of Abraham Clarke, mercer of London, BA Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge 1672, MA 1675. Venn has him ordained in 1678, and vicar of Tannington, Suffolk in 1681; this man was not vicar of Tannington, but rector of Pickworth, Lincolnshire from 1678 until his death in 1703 (the ordination date matches the information in the CCEd database, which does not record a Peter Clarke at Tannington).

Books

Clarke’s will directed that his books, along with his other household goods, be sold after his death for the benefit of his son Edward. The sale took place in London as a retail sale, beginning 20 September 1703; no catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in the Daily Courant.

Characteristic markings

None of Clarkes’s books have been identified.
