Biographical Note
Of Kent; matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge 1659, but did not graduate. Admitted at the Inner Temple 1670. From 1693 until his death he was Yeoman of the Removing Wardrobe, a sinecure office of the royal household concerned with overseeing furniture which moved between royal palaces.
Books
Hume's brief will, in which he describes himself as of St Margaret's, Westminster, has no mention of books; he bequeathed his goods to his wife Rachel and mentioned his "friend and fellow in office at the Exchequer" Thomas Cremer. His library was sold by retail sale in London, beginning 22 March 1708; no catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in several issues of the Daily Courant.
