Biographical Note

Marriott’s parentage and education are not established. Much of his career related to auditing, and amongst various official roles he was deputy-auditor of the city of London by 1690, and became involved in financial frauds. He was MP for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis 1711-15, and thereafter involved himself in local affairs in Fulham.

Marriott used an armorial bookplate (Franks 19750): ‘of Parsons Green in the County of Middx., Esqr.’ The disposition and content of his library are not established.

Example (bearing the bookplate): Canberra, National Library of Australia: MS 1458.
