====Biographical Note====
Son of [[family::Richard Samwayes]], [[occupation::vicar]] of [[location::Ilminster, Somerset]].  BA [[education::Corpus Christi College, Oxford]] 1634, MA 1637, [[occupation::fellow]] 1638-48, when he was ejected, but reinstated in 1660; BD 1661.  [[occupation::rector|Rector]] of [[location::Meysey Hampton, Gloucestershire]] 1661-69.  He published ''Englands faithfull reprover and monitour'' in 1653; according to [[crossreference::Anthony Wood 1632-1695|Anthony Wood]], he had other works "fitted for the press", which were lost.

====Books====
In his will, Samwayes [[bequest::bequeathed]] to [[beneficiary::Corpus Christi College, Oxford|Corpus Christi]] "all my books which are in my study fit for a library"; of the remainder, 50 books were to be [[bequest::given]] to his [[beneficiary::kinsman]] [[family::Peter Samwayes]] ([[date of birth::1615]]-[[date of death::1693|93]]), [[occupation::rector]] of [[location::Bedale]]), 40 to his [[beneficiary::cousin]] [[family::John Haugh]], and the rest were to be kept in store by his executor for such of his nephews "as shall affect learning".  [[subsequent owner::Peter Samwayes]] was also to receive all his [[format::manuscript|manuscripts]] and papers.  Examples: in Corpus Christi, Oxford.
