Biographical Note

Books

In his will, Samwayes bequeathed to Corpus Christi "all my books which are in my study fit for a library"; of the remainder, 50 books were to be given to his kinsman Peter Samwayes (1615-93), rector of Bedale), 40 to his cousin John Haugh, and the rest were to be kept in store by his executor for such of his nephews "as shall affect learning". Peter Samwayes was also to receive all his manuscripts and papers. Examples: in Corpus Christi, Oxford.
