Sir Robert POLLOCK or POLLOK of Pollock, 1st Baronet, ca.1665-1735

Biographical Note

The son of Robert Pollock of Pollock (d.1673), he studied at Glasgow University. He made his first career in the military, firstly as a lieutenant in an independent troop of horse and then captain in the 7th Dragoons in 1690 and a major of foot in Lord Murray’s regiment from 1694 until 1698. He was then a major of Dragoons in the Earl of Hyndford’s regiment until 1710 and a lieutenant-colonel to 1715. In 1700 he was elected to the Scottish Parliament and to the British Parliament in 1707/1708 and from 1710 to 1722. He received his baronetcy in 1703. He supported the accession of William and Mary and the later Hanoverian succession.
