Robert SNELL 1678/9-1741

Snell's bookplate (British Museum Franks Collection *496)

Biographical Note

Son of John Snell, goldsmith and banker of London. He matriculated at Balliol College, Oxford in 1695, and was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1700. He was called to the bar in 1700, becoming a bencher in 1728.

Books

He had an engraved armorial bookplate (‘Robert Snell, of the Inner Temple, Esqr’): Franks *496.

The content and the extent of his library are not established. No reference is made to books in his will, and any he possessed at the time of his death presumably passed to his brothers Vyner and Thomas and sister Frances, his main beneficiaries.
