Robert SOME d.1608/9

Biographical Note

BA St John's College, Cambridge 1561/2, fellow Queens' College 1562, MA 1565, BD 1571/2 and DD in 1580. Elected a university preacher in 1567, Master of Peterhouse from 1589, and he served as Vice-Chancellor from 1590 to 1592 and 1599 to 1600. Rector of Girton from 1573 to 1609, where he turned the chancel into a schoolroom.


Some's probate inventory includes over 300 books, 206 of which are unspecified, valued at £34 12s 10d (from a total estate valued at £140 1s 7d). The books are mostly in Latin, with some Greek, Spanish and English. The named books are overwhelmingly theological alongside some lexicography, grammar and other subjects.
