====Biographical Note====
Possibly the [[occupation::barrister]] of [[organisations::Lincoln’s Inn]], [[occupation::Master in Chancery]] c.1673. If so, he is recorded by Foster as having matriculated at [[education::St John's College, Oxford]] in 1654, with no information about graduation.

====Books====
Howell's library was [[auction::auctioned]] in [[location of auction::London]], [[date of auction::7.11.1681]], as part of a joint sale with the books of [[crossreference::Ralph Button 1612-1680|Ralph Button]] and [[crossreference::Thankful Owen]]. The catalogue lists 1931 lots, plus 5 vols of pamphlets, but does not distinguish which books came from which source.  1164 lots were in [[language::Latin]] (including 127 [[subject::medicine|medical]] books and 59 [[subject::mathematics|mathematical]] ones), 60 were in [[language::Italian]], [[language::French]] or [[language::Spanish]], and the remaining 707 were in [[language::English]].
