William PAYNE 1649/50-1697

Biographical Note

Son of William Payne of Hutton, Essex. BA Magdalene College, Cambridge 1669, fellow 1671, MA 1672, DD 1689. Rector of Wormshill, Kent 1673, of St Mary, Whitechapel 1681, prebendary of Westminster 1694. Fellow of the Royal Society, 1681. He published numerous doctrinal and devotional works.

Payne's library was auctioned in London, 24.2.1698, 21.2.1699 (not, apparently, his entire library; at least one further part may be lost).
