William SALKELD 1671-1715

Biographical Note

Son of Samuel Salkeld of Fallowden, Northumberland. Matriculated at St Edmund Hall, Oxford 1687, but did not graduate; he was admitted at the Middle Temple in 1692 (barrister, 1698). He lived in Dorset from 1700 and became a serjeant at law in 1715, and a judge for some of the Welsh counties. He published a series of law reports which became standard references.

Part of Salkeld's library was auctioned in London, beginning 27 June 1716.
