Biographical Note

Born at Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire. BA King's College, Cambridge 1578, MA 1581, fellow 1576-86, DD 1594. Master of Clare College, Cambridge 1601-12, Provost of King's 1612-15, vice-chancellor 1602. Rector of Willingham, Cambridgeshire 1586-1601, of Kingston 1596-1601, rector of Little Barfield and vicar of Halstead, Essex around the same time; canon of Peterborough 1595.

Smith gave ca.90 books to King's. Smith's will, which is brief and does not indicate an extensive estate in money or property, has no mention of books.
