William TURTON 1762-1835

Biographical Note

Son of a Gloucestershire solicitor. BA Oriel College, Oxford 1785, MA and MB 1791. Physician of Swansea 1807, of Dublin 1813-1816, of Teignmouth 1819, of Torquay 1822, and of Bideford 1831. He was noted as a naturalist and conchologist, and was the author of numerous works on natural science. As physician at Teignmouth, he treated Tom Keats, brother to the poet John Keats.
