Biographical Note
He succeeded his father, John Sutherland of Clyne, in 1697. He was related to the family of Alexander Sutherland of Kinminity (d.1725).

Used an engraved bookplate (Franks 28576): James Sutherland, of Clyne Esqr. Franks notes that this is 'The plate of Alexander Sutherland of Kinminity reworked'.
The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
