Biographical Note

BA Gonville Hall, Cambridge 1546, MA 1549, fellow of the refounded Gonville and Caius College from 1557. He is also described as a priest.

Books

Bateman's probate inventory includes ca.475 books, valued at £31 2s 5d (from a total estate valued at just under £49). The books are mostly in Latin, with some Greek, English and Hebrew, covering a wide range of subjects including theology, philosophy, classics, law and other topics. He also owned a clavichord. His will has no specific mention of books, and directed that his goods be disposed of by the fellows of Gonville and Caius.
